Cyber-Wellness at Work: What is it and why is it so important?

  • Saxo Markets Singapore 88 Market Street, CapitaSpring #31-01 S-048948 Singapore (map)

In an age of remote or hybrid working, do you and your colleagues feel safe and happy at work?

A lot of time is typically spent online for work, learning, and leisure, which also increases the exposure to a wide range of cyber threats. This includes scams and fraud, cyber bullying and other types of online harassment, disinformation (aka fake news), addiction, fatigue and burnout.

This is why cyber wellbeing – ensuring that we are safe, happy and healthy as we use the internet – emerges as a crucial factor for a healthy digital experience.

However, most cyber wellness and cyber safety interventions by organisations are inadequate. In general, cybersecurity threats, such as phishing and malware, which focus on protecting data and systems, receive much attention. On the other hand, training and solutions for the ‘softer’ aspects of cyber safety – which focus on protecting people - are often ignored or under-developed.

In this talk for DABS, Dr. Rao will highlight:

·       The dangers that digital devices, social media, and tech-based work processes pose to employee safety and wellbeing

·       Risks that organisations face from these dangers, including reputational and financial harms

·       How organisations can benefit from a focus on employee cyber wellbeing
