Frank Jensen, Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, gave a speech at a luncheon organized by DABS at Raffles Hotel during his brief visit to Singapore. The political chief of the Danish capital flew in from Hong Kong to meet ministers and visit companies in Singapore. In Hong Kong Copenhagen was specially invited to a gathering by the 40 largest cities in the world. Before that Jensen and his delegation were in Saragossa in Spain, where Copenhagen was handed the chairmanship of the organization Eurocities – a network of 141 European cities.
The 49-year old mayor and former minister were invited to Singapore because of the green image and the green initiatives Copenhagen has taken. One result is that today the old dirty trade harbour of Copenhagen is a popular place to swim during the short Danish summer after is has been cleaned and now declared safe.
