Panel Discussion on "Asia - Europe Cooperation: What next?"
Friday, 27th September 2002, 0915 - 1150
Hilton Hotel, Ballroom I, Level 3
581 Orchard Road, Singapore 238883

The Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) is pleased to invite you or representatives from your organisation to the panel discussion on "Asia - Europe Cooperation: What next?"

The Asia - Europe Meeting (ASEM) will hold its summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, 22 - 24 September 2002. In parallel, there will also be an ASEM Business Forum. The ASEM process was initiated by our PM, Mr Goh Chok Tong. As a follow up to the 2002 Summit in Copenhagen, the SIIA is jointly organising with the Royal Danish embassy in Singapore to organize a panel discussion to examine the way ahead for Asia and Europe.

This will help those in Singapore to better understand how they can benefit from intergovernmental meetings. This is particularly important, as Singapore businesses are encouraged to go aboard.

The panel discussion will feature two eminent speakers: Danish Ambassador J. Ostrom Mollers, the dean of the diplomatic corps who is a member of the ASEM Vision Group, and Prof Tommy Koh, Singapore's ambassador-at-large. Two business leaders will also be on the panel, with Heine Askaer-Jensen, group managing director of Jebsen & Jessen already confirmed. We hope also to confirm Mr Stephen Lee or another Singaporean business leader who will attend the Copenhagen forum. Ms Irene Ng, our director of programmes and a Singaporean MP, will chair the discussion. We expect to attract some 120 guests to the talk, drawing primarily on businesses.

This lecture is part of the ongoing SIIA Public Education Programme which seeks to increase understanding of pressing regional and international issues that hold special relevance to Singapore.

I hope you will take time to join us for the event. A copy of the speakers' CVs, the programme and registration reply form are enclosed. For inquiries, please contact Ms Michelle Goh at tel 6734 9600, fax 6733 6217 or siia_events@pacific.net.sg. Closing date for registration is 15 Sept 2002.

Yours sincerely

Simon SC Tay
Chairman
